Most people assume the answer is no once they see the steep switchbacks, loose gravel, and dramatic drop-offs. Bryce Canyon is famous for rugged beauty, not accessibility.
But with the right equipment, more is possible than people realize.
Hi, I’m Ryan, and on this trip Sam and I set out to explore Bryce Canyon National Park using a purpose-built all terrain wheelchair designed for off-road adventures. Our goal was to tackle the famous Wall Street Trail and see how accessible Bryce Canyon could really be.

Exploring Bryce Canyon National Park with an All Terrain Wheelchair
Bryce Canyon National Park is one of Utah’s most visually stunning parks. Towering hoodoos, deep red rock formations, and winding canyon trails make it unforgettable.
It’s also challenging terrain for anyone with mobility limitations.
The Wall Street Trail is a steep descent between massive canyon walls. The name comes from the rock “walls,” not the stock market. The trail includes:
- Sharp switchbacks
- Uneven rock surfaces
- Loose dirt and gravel
- Serious elevation change
A standard wheelchair isn’t built for this.
An Extreme Motus all terrain wheelchair is. With large tires, a stable frame, and off-road design, it can handle trails that would otherwise be off-limits.
Real-World Testing on Bryce Canyon Trails
We took the trail slowly and worked as a team. There were plenty of jokes, breaks, and “whose turn is it to push?” moments.
Bryce Canyon has a way of making you stop and stare. The colors, the scale, and the views are unreal.
For Sam, this wasn’t just a hike. It was another chance to experience a national park up close instead of watching from the sidelines.
Even with a fear of heights, he took it all in.
A Demo That Could Make a Real Difference
This trip wasn’t only for fun.
We were invited to demonstrate the chair for Bryce Canyon National Park rangers and law enforcement — the teams responsible for search and rescue.
One of the most common rescue scenarios at Bryce Canyon is heat-related illness. Hikers overheat, can’t continue, and need help getting out.
Rangers quickly saw how an all terrain wheelchair could help:
- Move injured hikers
- Reduce strain on rescue teams
- Reach difficult trail areas
- Improve overall park accessibility
The response was overwhelmingly positive.
Bryce Canyon National Park Now Offers All Terrain Wheelchairs
We’re excited to share a major accessibility win.
Bryce Canyon National Park now has two Extreme Motus all terrain wheelchairs available for visitors to borrow.
This means visitors with mobility challenges can explore more of the park, go beyond paved overlooks, and experience Bryce Canyon alongside their family and friends.
It also gives park staff a valuable tool for assisting visitors when needed.
When national parks invest in accessibility, they send a powerful message:
The outdoors should be for everyone.
If you’re planning a trip to Bryce Canyon National Park and want to borrow an all terrain wheelchair, it’s a good idea to contact the park ahead of time to ask about availability and details.
Seeing these chairs available to the public is a meaningful step toward more inclusive outdoor recreation.
Why Accessibility in National Parks Matters
Bryce Canyon welcomes millions of visitors every year.
When parks improve accessibility, they open the door for:
- Families with mobility challenges
- Veterans with injuries
- Seniors who love the outdoors
- Anyone who thought national parks were out of reach
An all terrain wheelchair doesn’t just help one person. It expands who gets to experience these incredible places.
Making the Outdoors More Accessible
Every trip we take is about testing limits and showing what’s possible.
Sometimes it’s lighthearted.
Sometimes it leads to real progress.
But it always comes back to one belief:
Outdoor experiences should be for everyone.
Try an All Terrain Wheelchair for Yourself
If you or a loved one want to explore beyond paved paths, an all terrain wheelchair can open doors to trails, beaches, and parks that once felt inaccessible.
