What if a wheelchair didn’t just help someone get around — but helped them explore beaches, trails, snow, and even water?
At Extreme Motus, we didn’t build our all terrain wheelchair just to solve a problem. We built it to unlock a world of possibility for people and families who love the outdoors.
Hi, I’m Ryan, one of the owners at Extreme Motus. What started as a passion project turned into a mission: to design a high-performance all terrain wheelchair that gives people the freedom to go nearly anywhere.
Sand. Grass. Gravel. Rocks. Snow.
Even floating on water.
But this story isn’t just about a wheelchair — it’s about access, family, and unforgettable moments outside.
How One All Terrain Wheelchair Changed a Family’s Experience
Our “aha” moment with the all terrain wheelchair happened on the Delicate Arch trail in Arches National Park — and it completely changed how I viewed mobility and access.
Sam and his family had visited Arches before, but their experience looked different from most families. When a hike involved rough terrain, Sam and his mom would often stay back while the rest of the family went ahead. Not because they didn’t want to go, but because a traditional wheelchair simply couldn’t handle the trail.
That meant missed memories, split-up family time, and constant planning around limitations.
So we decided to go back to Delicate Arch together — this time with the right equipment.
The Delicate Arch trail isn’t a paved path. It’s slick rock, uneven ground, and long stretches of desert terrain. Exactly the kind of place where a standard wheelchair struggles but a true all terrain wheelchair can perform.

We took it slow, worked as a team, and made the climb together. When we reached the top, Sam got to experience the same breathtaking view as everyone else — not from a parking lot, but from the arch itself.
I asked Sam what he thought.
He smiled and said, “Pretty cool.”
But the moment that really stayed with me came next.
When we asked his mom what she thought, she became emotional and said,
“This is the first time we’ve ever been able to do anything like this as a family.”
That hit me hard.
Because mobility challenges don’t just affect one person — they ripple across the entire family. They shape which trips are taken, which invitations are declined, and which adventures feel out of reach.
A capable all terrain wheelchair doesn’t just create access.
It brings families back into experiences together.
Since that day, we’ve heard similar stories from families visiting beaches, national parks, forests, and snowy landscapes for the first time together.
That Delicate Arch hike wasn’t just a milestone for Sam — it was the moment we realized this mission was bigger than a product. It was about restoring shared experiences and opening doors to the outdoors.
Why an All Terrain Wheelchair Matters
A traditional wheelchair works well indoors and on smooth pavement. But outdoor environments demand something more.
A quality all terrain wheelchair allows users to:
- Visit the beach with family
- Explore national parks and hiking trails
- Travel over grass, gravel, and uneven ground
- Enjoy snow and seasonal adventures
- Access nature that once felt off-limits
We’ve heard from parents who took their child to the beach for the first time. From families hiking together. From riders who say they finally feel connected to the world around them again.
That’s bigger than mobility. That’s freedom.
