Extreme Motus All-Terrain Wheelchair in the Water

The Extreme Motus all-terrain wheelchair is often mistaken for a beach wheelchair. While the Motus does use the same tires from Wheeleez that many beach wheelchairs use. Our mobility device was designed in the Rockies as a hiking all-terrain wheelchair truly capable of handing rocks, gravel, grass, mud, sand, and more.

The Extreme Motus can be used as a beach wheelchair and many of our customers have purchased it for that reason alone but we want everyone know that it can be used for so many more adventures than just the beach.

Normally when Sam visits a beach, lake, or reservoir he needs to be carried in his wheelchair like Cleopatra across the sand to a beach towel to protect the bearings of his everyday wheelchair from the sand.

He then sits there in his chair under a tent baking like a tomato while the rest of the group splashes and has fun in the water. He is so close to enjoying a day at the lake with everyone else but is forced to watch and listen as he is left out of another activity.

It’s one of the many things he is often left out of because of his cerebral palsy. And one of the many things he can now participate in because of the Extreme Motus All Terrain Wheelchair.

This was the first time Sam and I used the Extreme Motus in the water. In Utah Reservoirs like this exist because of melting snow from the mountains.

So is Sam screaming with joy in this video below or screaming from the cold water filling the seat?

Probably a little of both. In this video the chair is being pushed by his older brother Nick. Sam loves spending time with Nick and doing something fun like playing in the water together is a cool moment for everyone.

When I first discovered the chair I thought, “Wow this is perfect for my friend Sam.” After a few adventures with the chair, I realized how life-changing it was not just for Sam but his entire circle of friends and family.

Sam no longer needs to plan a family trip around what is and isn’t wheelchair accessible. He can go just about anywhere.

This type of video filled with pure joy stood out in the early days of TikTok when everyone seemed to be copying each other’s dance moves. It received 1,000,000 views.

Extreme Motus All-Terrain Wheelchair Water Safety Tips

Can the Extreme Motus all-terrain wheelchair go in the water? Yes.

Is it an ocean going vessel? No.

Anytime you are using the all-terrain wheelchair in the water a responsible caretaker must be holding it or it will roll over. The person riding in the chair should also be wearing a life jacket, and not be wearing the seatbelt.

Stay in shallow, calm water. Be safe and enjoy your time in the water with family and friends.
